Berberine is a natural compound found in several plants, most concentrated in the Berberis genus. Berberine-containing plants have a long history of use in traditional medicine systems, particularly in Chinese, Ayurvedic and Native American medicine. Berberine’s effects on lipid and sugar metabolism have garnered attention. Berberine has the potential to positively impact lipid metabolism. It may regulate levels of triglycerides and low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol. Additionally, it may promote levels of high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol, the “good” cholesterol.
Serving Size One capsule Berberine (berberine HCl from Berberis aristata stem bark)500 mg Non-medicinal Ingredients*: Microcrystalline cellulose, sodium stearyl fumarate. Capsule: Hypromellose.
Adults (18 years and over) – Take one capsule, two times a day, with food; or as directed by health care practitioner. Consult a health care practitioner for use beyond 3 months. Do not open capsules, as this may compromise the stability of the medicinal ingredients. Do not exceed daily dose unless instructed by a healthcare practitioner.
Consult a health care practitioner prior to use if you have a kidney disorder, have diabetes, cardiovascular disease, liver or kidney disease, gall stones, a blood disorder or leucopenia, hypoglycemia, hypotension, or if you are taking prescription medication as this may alter the effectiveness of these medications. If you experience sweating, paleness, chills, headache, dizziness and / or confusion, discontinue use and consult a health care practitioner. Do not use if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or plan to become pregnant. May cause gastrointestinal upsets such as constipation, vomiting and abdominal pain/cramps, in which case discontinue use and consult a health care practitioner. Some people may experience skin irritation, facial flushing and slowed heart rate.
